When you have scheduled an expedited pickup, proper preparation ensures your freight moves without delays. Here is what to have ready when the driver arrives.
Packaging and Protection
- Secure packaging — Parts should be in boxes, crates, or on pallets. Loose items create loading delays and increase the risk of damage in transit.
- Labeling — Mark each piece with the delivery address and any handling instructions. This is especially important for multi-piece shipments.
- Protection — Wrap fragile or precision parts. Blanket wrap, foam, or bubble wrap prevents movement and contact damage during transport.
Staging for Pickup
Have your freight staged and accessible before the scheduled pickup time. If loading dock access is required, confirm dock availability. If the pickup is from a non-dock location, confirm that ground-level loading is possible.
Documentation
Have your shipping documents ready, including any packing lists, purchase orders, or delivery receipts that need to travel with the freight. Clear documentation speeds up the pickup process and ensures accurate delivery.
Communication
If anything changes — additional pieces, different pickup location, schedule shift — communicate those changes as early as possible. Last-minute surprises at pickup create delays that affect the entire delivery timeline.
